Portrait : Sino, figure emblématique du graffiti francilien

Born in 1970, Sino showed an early interest in graphic arts, which he would dedicate his studies to. However, it was his passion for drawing that led him to discover graffiti culture in 1986. He then began working with letters, gradually establishing his signature in the form of a tag. Over the last few decades, he has become an iconic figure in the graffiti scene of the Paris region.

Among his influences are the FBI collective and their murals at La Défense. Unsurprisingly, Puteaux and La Défense became his favorite playgrounds. He developed his style and technique there. He later worked extensively on the Paris Saint-Lazare train line, where he left his mark with highly colorful pieces.

From the late 1990s, before returning to Puteaux, he undertook a major project to document the graffiti movement and forged a cultural link between Paris and Montreal. In 1997, he founded Keep it Real, a magazine showcasing French-speaking hip-hop artists. A year later, he moved to Canada, where he shared his experience and talents with a new generation of urban artists. He became a mentor to young graffiti artists who are now pioneers of Canadian graffiti. Since returning to Paris, he has focused primarily on his personal work, in his studio or in public spaces.

Today, in his studio, he has diversified his work by creating more conventional art on canvas. Through his works, Sino has somehow translated his early days as a "vandal" graffiti artist into the more mainstream world of art galleries. And for good reason, Sino has won over numerous art galleries in Paris and Canada, where he has been exhibiting his work for several years.

Through the mock-ups we are exhibiting at La Manufacture, Sino continues to pursue a true artistic endeavor that resembles an exploration of the foundations of writing and words, while also celebrating his passion for urban murals in the Paris transport system. Sino is constantly creating new lettering styles; his style is multifaceted, and he loves to experiment with shapes and colors, as well as techniques and mediums.
