Redécouvrez les portraits iconiques de Gainsbourg par Tony Frank

Two days ago, the ever-faithful fans of singer Serge Gainsbourg gathered outside his townhouse to mark the 30th anniversary of his death. The building at 5bis rue de Verneuil, where he lived from 1969 to 1991, has become a place of pilgrimage for lovers and street art enthusiasts.

Deeply rooted in Parisian heritage, the house is covered in collages, graffiti, and paint. In addition to its iconic interior and the history surrounding the singer’s townhouse, it is no surprise that Charlotte Gainsbourg announced its upcoming conversion into a museum, with an opening planned for fall 2021.  We took the opportunity to seek inspiration around this temple of street art, just a stone’s throw from our gallery on rue de Beaune.

Come take a stroll around the 7th arrondissement, between the townhouse of this iconic neighborhood figure and our art gallery. It’s also a chance to rediscover our series of photographs of singer and composer Gainsbourg. These portraits, photo-booth pictures, and contact sheets are from the work of Tony Frank, Gainsbourg’s close friend since the early 1960s and one of the mainstays of Salut les Copains. Considered the photographer of the stars for the past 40 years, Tony Frank was also Johnny Hallyday’s official photographer for over 40 years, as well as Michel Polnareff’s.

These silver gelatin prints from Dupon Phidad are available in several sizes, both online and in person at the gallery. Just contact us here or via our social media.
